Mantua

The bell tower of Mantua Cathedral

A stunning viewpoint overlooking the city and the Gonzaga palaces

The bell tower of St Peter’s Cathedral, known as the Duomo of Mantua, dominates the historic heart of the city and offers a panoramic view of the squares, lakes and palaces of the Gonzaga family.

Built in the Romanesque style, it is the oldest part of the building: a massive square-plan bell tower, lightened by double and triple-lancet windows, which stands between the late-Baroque façade and the Gothic side of the cathedral.

Now open to the public following a major restoration, the bell tower invites visitors to discover the treasures of the Diocese of Mantua, alongside the city itself, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
