The villa, built in 1907 for longtime captain Nicolò Zanelli, represents one of the most significant masterpieces of the Italian Art Nouveau style.
The project, drawn up by architect Gottardo Gussoni with the Turin engineer Pietro Fenoglio, whose student and collaborator he was, features a rich ornamental display.
Situated in a vast garden in communication with the sea, it belonged to the Zanelli family until 1933; it was then sold to the city of Milan, which turned it into a campground and international colony. During World War II it was used as a hospital camp. Beginning in 1967 it was used as a health care facility. In 1998, part of the building collapsed, preventing access.
After a long period of closure-in the course of which major restoration work was carried out by ARTE Genoa-it will once again be possible to access it by participating in an interesting guided tour that will allow people to discover its history and curiosities.
